Our United Villages is a non-profit agency dedicated to bringing people
together to share ideas, inspire actions, and strengthen communities.
Our United Villages is invested in the material and human resources
that are available in our community to create sustainable solutions.
Community Outreach provides opportunities
to bring neighbors together to identify their common interests and
to strengthen their own community.
The ReBuilding Center is a project of Our United Villages.
DeConstruction Services, Driving Department and ReFind Furniture
are services of The ReBuilding Center. These services divert 5 million
pounds of reusable building materials from landfills each year.
ReBuilding Center
accepts donations of reusable building materials and sells them
to the community at 50-90% off retail value. Two-hundred and fifty
visitors come to the ReBuilding Center everyday to browse the inventory
that changes every 15 minutes.
DeConstruction
Services is a sustainable alternative to demolition by hand-dismantling
complete structures and building components, making them available
for reuse. They systematically deconstruct everything from kitchen
cabinets to whole commercial buildings. They go to great lengths
to keep materials out of the landfill, down to re-bagging insulation
and de-nailing lumber.
Driving Department picks
up pre-approved loads of pre-approved donated reusable building
materials for free. They give tax-deductible receipts and pick up
the equivalent of 2-3 20 foot flat bed trucks per day.
ReFind Furniture demonstrates
re-use by creating home furnishings from reclaimed materials. This
furniture is sold to the community and on display in the showroom
for inspiration. They also offer classes about creating and renovating
using reusable building materials such as "Make a Table From
a Door", "Power Tools For Women" and "Concrete
Countertops 101".
